The Rotary Club of Slippery Rock ushered in the Holiday Season with a variety of events and projects. On Wednesday, December 3, the club sponsored a community blood bank at the Slippery Rock Township Building. Donors provided over 27 units of blood which will potentially help over 81 local patients.
Slippery Rock Golf Club was the venue for the club’s annual Purse Bingo on Saturday, December 6. Over 50 people attended the event which is a major fund raiser for local service projects.
In addition, the Rotary Club of Slippery Rock hosted guest speakers from the Slippery Rock Community Library on Monday, December 1. Director Jacob Daugherty discussed future plans to for the library and the importance of community support. Program Coordinator Christen McClure spoke about upcoming community programs and continued community outreach. Following their presentations, Rotarian Abby Smith, Treasurer, presented Daugherty and McClure with a $1,000 grant.
Slippery Rock Rotarian, Dr. Chad Hamilton Smith, MD, spoke to the club on Tuesday, December 9. Smith, an hematology and medical oncologist at UPMC Jameson, New Castle, PA, discussed the basics of cancer treatment and simplified, the meanings of complex medical terminology that usually confuses patients and their families.
