The Rotary Club of Slippery Rock kicked off 2026 on Monday, January 5, with a remote Zoom call featuring Miss Moraine State Camryn Sacco. Sacco who won the title at the Miss Butler County pageant in November, spoke the group about the importance that scholarship and public service today show to the local and statewide pageants leading up to Miss America. She emphasized that Miss America is no longer strictly a beauty pageant and that the five pillars of the Miss America opportunity, i.e., the four points of the crown and its base are: style, service, scholarship, success and sisterhood. Sacco, 19, a bioengineering major at the University of Pittsburgh with a minor in industrial engineering, will be competing for the Miss Pennsylvania Crown in June. She hails from Marion Center, Indiana County.

Wolf Creek Floral
On Monday, January 26, Jennifer Lash, owner of Wolf Creek Floral, Grove City, PA, addressed Rotarians via a Zoom call. After 20 years as an emergency room physician’s assistant, Lash decided to change careers and turned her hobby of gardening into a new floral and greenhouse business. In September 2023, she and her husband James, a physics professor at Grove City College, purchased the former Kocher’s Grove City Floral Co. and began major renovations to the building. “We wanted to build upon the legacy of Kocher’s,” explained Lash, “but give it a complete refresh.” The business opened on November 2024 featuring custom-designed floral creations, plants and gift ware from local talent, including Fairview Farms Candles and Shannon’s Candy Kitchen. With a focus on customer and community service, Wolf Creek Floral has engaged interns from the Entrepreneurship Program at Grove City College and takes pride in providing fresh, long lasting arrangements. She concluded that future plans for the business include a floral subscription program and welcomed input from the local community.
