Slippery Rock Rotary Awards $1,000 To Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard
Food insecurity and hunger management were the topics at the Slippery Rock Rotary’s weekly meeting Monday, November 3, 2025. Guest speakers Carol Lambert and Sylvia Walters of the Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard discussed the increasing numbers of area families facing food insecurity and what their local food pantry is doing to meet this need. At the end of the meeting, Rotary President Brad Smith presented the women with a $1,000 check for the food cupboard.
Coordinator Lambert explained that the organization serves approximately 250 families within the northern portion of the Slippery Rock Area School District and currently, “there is no need that hasn’t been met” due to the generosity of local businesses and their dedicated volunteers. She added that for Thanksgiving 2025, the pantry is planning to help 250 families as compared to 120-125 in years past. Lambert concluded that seniors often have transportation issues and that their volunteers deliver food to approximately 8 area homes each month.
Sylvia Walters, Co-Coordinator at the food cupboard, detailed the organization’s summer lunch program. The program provided 5 days of meals for 11 weeks to 17 families (and approximately 30 children) this past summer for a total of 985 meals. Walters explained that the Slippery Rock Area School District refers the majority of families, and that all meals are funded through the food pantry at no cost to participants.
